How Invisalign Functions
Invisalign treatment begins with the end of the treatment visible. A 3-D computer model is created of the patient’s smile. This shows the patient’s teeth prior to and after Invisalign treatment. Margeson will make any needed modifications, and the information is passed on to the Invisalign lab where the aligners are designed.
With the help of Invisalign’s ClinCheck software, Margeson is able to show patients each movement, aligner by aligner, throughout the process of treatment.
Invisalign aligners are made from transparent, medical-grade plastic. They can be customized to fit each individual patient. Patients typically receive up to six sets of aligners during their orthodontic appointment. Each aligner lasts for approximately two weeks.
Margeson explained that the series of aligners work together to gradually reposition teeth in the correct alignment. The treatment typically lasts nine to 18 months.
Oral Hygiene Benefits
Invisalign treatment is easy because aligners can be removed when you drink, eat, and floss.
Margeson explained that tartar and plaque can build around brackets for patients who don’t pay attention to their dental hygiene. Food particles often get caught around brackets.” Flossing also takes longer due to floss threaders that are required to move between wires and teeth to ensure proper flossing.
Adjustable aligners are able to eliminate potential obstructions. Patients wear their aligners, remove them for eating and drinking, and are able to brush and floss normally.
